The Wheats RFC have moved quickly to secure the services of Steve Clarke who returns to the club for his second spell as Head Coach and begins his role immediately in preparation for the new season in September 2024.
Having previously successfully coached the club back in 2017, “Clarkey” is no stranger to the Wheats and lives locally with his young family & also teaches sport at a local Junior School. He joins on a two year contract with a focus on improving the 1st XV whilst also aiming to attract new players from the surrounding area. He said “It's great to be welcomed back to the Wheats family! I'm excited to work with such a fantastic group of lads and an amazing club. Can't wait to get the season underway!”
Vice-Chairman Ben Craig happily stated “It’s great that Clarkey has returned to the club as he left what we’ve always felt some unfinished business here and he’s a really likeable bloke who will get on and understand our boys which is really important to us. We have a good set of boys who all get on & some brilliant players, but players availability and some injuries had hampered our progression leading to a very difficult season in 2023 where we just managed to survive. I have no doubt that with some new faces already committed to joining and Clarkey at the helm it will mean a very different season for us at the WHEATS”
For anyone who knows Steve Clarke and would like to get back involved with rugby then please contact us here or Steve directly on his socials where he’ll be happy to discuss our ambitions here at the club.
Pre-season training is starting officially on Tuesday 2nd July at 6:30pm, get in touch if you want to come down and join The Wheats.
